Pattern & Print (Ajrakh Art) :
Color Palette: Dominated by rich, earthy crimson red and maroon tones with accents of indigo blue, black, and beige the classic color signature of authentic Ajrakh.
Motifs: Features intricate, repeating all-over block prints, including:
Fine floral rosettes and star like geometric mandalas (Jal and Booti patterns).
Symmetric grid alignments typical of traditional Ajrakh craft.
Fabric (Modal Cotton/Silk):
Crafted from high grade Modal, a natural cellulosic fiber spun from beech wood cellulose, often blended with fine cotton.
It has a remarkably soft, silky hand feel, natural shine, and excellent breathability, making it light yet luxurious.
Ajrakh Hand Block Printing Technique:
Resist & Mordant Hand Printing: Unlike woven patterns (like Jamdani), Ajrakh is created using intricate hand carved wooden blocks. The fabric undergoes a rigorous 14 to 16 step process involving natural dyes, mud resist paste (gadh), and mordants.
Natural Dyes: The deep reds are achieved through natural madder root (Alizarin), while the dark outlines come from iron rust solution and indigo.
Precision & Texture: The subtle variations in print alignment across the garment highlight the artisan's hand-blocking precision, giving every garment an authentic handcrafted character.
